What are HA Skin Boosters?
Skin Boosters are a form of dermal fillers that are micro-injected (often with a Dermapen or a cannula) into the skin to promote the cell’s natural regeneration and renewal process. This procedure is more akin to skin needling, but it’s so much more than that – you might even say it’s skin needling ‘on steroids.’
We use HA (Hyaluronic Acid) to replace and replenish the declining naturally-occurring levels of this substance into the skin because it can absorb water up to 200 times its weight. It encourages cells to retain moisture, promotes collagen and elastin formation, and ‘boosts’ the skin into rejuvenating itself as it did in your youth.
What’s the Difference Between a Filler and a Skin Booster?
While the same substance is used in both Skin Booster and Dermal Filler treatments, HA solutions can vary in viscosity and will function differently depending on where it’s injected into the body.
The hydrating sugar gel (HA) that’s used in dermal fillers is thicker, heavier, and is placed further into skin tissue than it is for skin booster treatments. Its purpose is to plump, lift, and reduce the signs of aging. The HA used for skin boosters have a thinner, fluid consistency that’s placed just beneath the skin surface. Its aesthetic appeal is a radiant glow and sometimes the smoothing of fine lines. Its nourishing benefits are to promote maximum skin hydration, stimulate collagen production, and to set the stage for new connective tissue.
What will Micro-Needling do for my Skin?
The most obvious effect on skin is the youthful, refreshed, and glowing countenance that builds confidence in your appearance. Additionally, very important biological processes are occurring beneath the skin surface to ensure you retain maximum skin health and reverse the signs and effects of aging. HA molecules injected into the skin via skin needling allows the body to get to work in restoring collagen, elastin, and hydration levels to close and heal the exposed pores that have been opened or ‘pricked’ during your treatment session. It’s a win-win!
Who is it Suitable For?
As a skin hydrator treatment, boosters are suitable for all skin types including sensitive skin – after all, everyone could do with some much-needed hydration regardless of skin type. Dry, scaly, and wrinkled skin are all manifestations of declining levels of HA and may benefit from booster treatments. Those with acne scars, abnormal skin texture, and other imperfections may also see an improvement in overall skin health.
What Areas does it Treat?
Skin booster treatments have a very fluid consistency that allows them to be used in large surface areas, the face and neck being the most common, but why stop there? We also offer treatment to the décolletage and hands – because they age as well, they deserve rejuvenation too!
How Many Sessions do I Need?
Depending on your preferences and needs, you can individualize a tailored schedule to achieve the results you want. A typical schedule to get the best results is to start off intensely with three sessions scheduled four weeks apart. This ensures the skin is continuously replenished with HA to provide hydration and stimulate collagen production.
Regular maintenance sessions are generally scheduled every six months thereafter.
How Long Does It Last?
Typically, treatments and results last six months.
Skin boosters are extremely effective and especially so when your body is getting other structural support nutrients for the HA molecules to bind to. If you have a skin care regimen, are staying hydrated, and reducing stress levels via exercise or “me time,” results can be long-lasting as your body continues to produce HA levels while you replenish them every six months.
How Much Does Skin Needling Cost?
At your consultation, you’ll be able to discuss specific areas that you may want done. Furthermore, you’ll be able to decide which target areas you’d rather focus on more than others. Since every patient is different, a consult is highly recommended to express your needs and concerns. However, here’s a cost analysis of where to start so that you know exactly what to expect.
» 1mL $399 – Half face, V-neck
» 2mL $599 – Full face, décolletage, and both hands
How Long Does the Procedure Take?
Treatment sessions will vary in length depending on the target areas being treated and if there are any other treatments you’re going to have done at the same time. Generally, expect to be in the clinic for 45-60 minutes for your first session.
Does Skin Needling It Hurt?
Micro-needling is tolerated well by patients, but we don’t want you to experience any discomfort that you don’t need to. To put you at ease during the procedure, a topical numbing cream will be applied to the target area. Additionally, the HA booster will also contain a local anaesthetic as it’s administered.
What’s the Downtime?
Downtime is minimal with skin hydrator treatments, and skin colour should return to normal within 5-20 minutes post procedure. Often, you can return to your daily activities or work the same day being mindful to avoid strenuous exercise within 24 hours. Those with sensitive skin may experience redness or swelling on the treated areas, but it should subside within a few days and last no longer than two weeks.
You will be given specific after-care instructions following your treatment.
When Will I See Results?
Initial results may be seen immediately. Naturally, skin health will improve over time while collagen and elastin develop and form, and this process usually takes between 6-12 weeks, but skin rejuvenation benefits may be visible as early as two weeks. However, with continued booster sessions, the instant supply of HA and moisture retention will provide constant hydration and a long-lasting, radiant look.
Are There Any Risks?
Minor redness, skin sensitivity, and swelling of the treated area may occur. During your consult and before your treatment session, you will be guided through the consent form, what to expect during the treatment, and instructions for after-care. It’s essential to be honest about your medical history to determine if you’re a suitable candidate without any contraindications.
There are some restrictions that may disqualify you or will require you to wait for full recovery.
