Who is the treatment suitable for?

Generally this area starts to hollow in our 40s and often benefits from volume restoration around this time.

There is no need to wait until the marionettes are really hollow, a small amount of filler as they begin to hollow will freshen them up nicely.

For the people who have a downward turned mouth (this is usually genetic and worsens as we age), a small amount of anti-wrinkle and filler early on can prevent this area from getting worse.

What product do you use?

To restore hollowness in the marionettes we use long lasting dermal filler. This reduces the hollowness and supports the corners of the mouth.

These are natural hyaluronic acid based (HA) fillers that break down naturally in the body over time. The filler is an HA gel which attracts and binds water.

HA fillers are not permanent – which is a good thing. They are biodegradable.

For the clients who have a natural mouth frown then small regular doses of anti-wrinkle to the muscles in this area relaxes them stopping them from pulling downward.

Anti-wrinkle is best used as a line preventer so it’s a good idea to start treating this area early on, even in your late 20s or early 30s if this is a concern for you.

How long does the procedure take?

Filler to the marionette area usually takes 30mins.

Anti-wrinkle treatments are quicker and your appointment will be 15mins.

You can have both the filler and the anti-wrinkle done at the same time as they work in different ways, or just filler, or just anti-wrinkle.

Does the ‘Mouth Frown’ treatment hurt?

The chin area is a little more sensitive than other areas on the face, but we use local anaesthetic to help make the treatment more comfortable.

All our fillers contain local anaesthetic too so the areas goes numb as we treat it.

The numbing lasts for about 20mins.

Is there any downtime after dermal fillers for Marionette lines?

Following fillers to your marionette area you may or may not have slight bruising. You will also experience some mild swelling that really only you will notice and lasts about 48-72 hours.

If it is your first treatment it is best to come after work or on your days off as usually clients are nervous and don’t really know what to expect!

There is really no downtime following anti-wrinkle to this area.

Natural mineral makeup powder can be applied on the day of treatment.

No vigorous exercise is permitted for 24-48 hours after your filler treatment.

No beauty treatments on the face, skin peels, or microdermabrasion treatments are to be done for 2 weeks post filler treatment.

Your after care will be given to you at the time of your appointment.

How long does Marionette Line Treatment last?

The dermal filler we use in the marionette area is a nice thick HA gel designed to last around 18 months.

This also depends on your metabolism, lifestyle, genetics and how much filler you opt to have in the area.

Sometimes a small top-up may be required around 12months.

The anti-wrinkle will only last about 6-8 weeks as we can only use very small doses in the lower face so it doesn’t affect your day to day mouth activity.

How soon can I have more?

The marionettes usually corrects nicely after one optimal filler treatment, but if you feel you would like more, then we recommend waiting 4-6 weeks as the filler is still expanding and settling in up until this stage.

For anti-wrinkle in this area then every few months is recommended to keep the muscles that pull the corners of the mouth down relaxed.

We don’t like to put too much filler in the marionette area as it can make us look bulky or heavy in the chin area.

As injectors we look at the face as a whole and often recommend treating other areas such as cheeks, chin, jawline, as these all help improve the marionettes too.

How much does Marionette lines filler cost?

This really depends on how much hollowness you have. Anywhere from 1-2mls is usually sufficient for the marionette area.

The filler comes in 1ml syringes.

1ml marionette filler starts at $450.

2mls $880.

Anti-wrinkle in this area costs anywhere from $40 to $80 depending on the amount needed.
