About Anti-Wrinkle

  • Anti-wrinkle is a specific type of muscle relaxant medication used in the cosmetic industry to prevent facial lines (wrinkles). It works by blocking the signals from your nerves to your muscles and preventing specific, targeted muscles from contracting. When injected, anti-wrinkle helps to enhance features and relax overactive facial muscles. It is this muscle relaxant action that prevents skin from creasing and wrinkles from forming.

There are two main types of anti-wrinkle injections in Australia, but due to our laws around medicines, we are unable to mention brand names on public information sites. Please contact us if you would like to know more.

  • The doses of anti-wrinkle used for cosmetic purposes are very small and applied to targeted areas. However, you should always make sure you only use anti-wrinkle under the care of an experienced and qualified health care professional.

Any side effects of cosmetic doses of anti-wrinkle are usually restricted to the area of injection and are temporary. These may include bruising, redness, swelling, skin tightness, headache, face pain, muscle weakness or feelings of pins and needles. Occasionally nausea might occur. If you have any questions about specific treatment areas and possible side effects, please get in touch.

  • Anti-wrinkle is a muscle relaxant. It is injected into select facial muscles to relax and put them to sleep allowing the skin on top to also relax and smooth. This reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and prevents more from forming.

Dermal filler plumps the skin. It is a naturally occurring hydrating sugar gel that is injected into the skin to lift, plump, contour, soften lines and add volume.

Anti-wrinkle and dermal filler work differently and are often used together as they target different aging concerns. This helps obtain fresh, natural and long-lasting results for the whole face.

  • Anyone who is over 18 years of age who would like to prevent facial lines (e.g. frown), enhance features (e.g. brow lift) or relax an overactive muscle (e.g. masseters).

  • When you start to notice your lines are still there when your face is relaxed. It works best as a line preventer, so it’s best to begin having it before the lines become etched on the skin.

The average age people begin having it is about 26-30 years. Sometimes younger if you have strong facial muscles.

  • The main 3 areas are the frown, forehead and crows feet (around the eyes). Other areas that can also be treated are:

Axillary hyperhidrosis, browlift, bunny scrunch, chin (dimpled/popply), crows feet, forehead lines, Gummy Smiles, Jawline Slimming (Masseters), marionette Lines (Sagging Jowls(, mouth frown & ‘smokers’ lines, neckbands (platysmal bands).

  • Anti-wrinkle lasts 3-5 months on most people providing the dosage is correct. Small light doses will wear off quicker.

If you stop having anti-wrinkle treatments your muscles will return to normal with no lasting effects.
