  • Dermal filler, or facial filler as it is also known, is an injectable cosmetic medication that consists of naturally occurring hydrating sugar gels. The purpose of these treatments is to help your skin achieve a youthful look by plumping and lifting the skin. They help to reduce the signs of aging by stimulating collagen growth and replacing collagen loss.

There are several quality brands of dermal filler used in Australia, but due to our laws around medicines, we are unable to mention brand names on public information sites. If you would like to know which brands we stock at Injectable Effects please contact us for more details.

  • Dermal filler treatment is fast and relatively pain-free but there is some risk of allergic reaction and temporary side effects that occur around the injection site such as bruising, swelling, redness, pain, itching and rash.

For this reason, it is important to always have dermal fillers injected by an experienced and qualified health care practitioner with specialised training in cosmetic injections. An experience injector will know the best types of fillers to use for specific areas of treatment which will mean in better results and fewer risks. If you have any questions or concerns about dermal filler treatments, please get in touch and we will do our best to answer them for you.

  • All our dermal fillers contain local anaesthetic so you will start to numb as soon as the filler is being injected.

Numbing cream is always applied to the lips prior to injecting. For those with very sensitive lips, a dental block is given. Dermal filler treatments are generally quite comfortable to have done.

You’ll leave the clinic with a mild pinkness at each injection site. The skin colour returns to normal 5-20 mins post-treatment. Just no vigorous exercise for 24 hours after your treatment. You will be given aftercare advice at the time of your treatment.

  • Yes! In fact, expertly injected filler treatments should look natural and the differences will be subtle. Our goal at Injectable Effects is to give you a fresh, rejuvenated look. Like you just got back from a relaxing holiday! Filler use only becomes obvious when it is repeated too regularly at excessive volumes.

  • Dermal filler plumps the skin. It is a naturally occurring hydrating sugar gel that is injected into the skin to lift, plump, contour, soften lines and add volume.

Anti-wrinkle is a muscle relaxant. It is injected into select facial muscles to relax and put them to sleep allowing the skin on top to also relax and smooth. This reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and prevents more from forming.

Anti-wrinkle and dermal filler work differently and are often used together as they target different aging concerns. This helps obtain fresh, natural and long-lasting results for the whole face.

  • Filler lasts anywhere from 4-18months depending on the thickness of the filler used, the treatment area, and age, metabolism and lifestyle of the client.

Lip fillers generally break down quicker than other treatment areas as the mouth is a high use area. We are moving it all day every day. Cheeks, chin, tear troughs, nasolabial and marionettes require thick filler and can last up to two years!

If you stop having dermal filler treatments your face will return to normal with no lasting effects (unless you have over-filled and stretched the lips with many treatments close together).

  • You can place dermal filler pretty much anywhere on the face, however, the main areas treated are the lips, cheeks, chin and jawline. Other areas we treat here at Injectable Effects are:

Tear troughs, nasolabial folds (nose to mouth lines), smile lines, Smokers’ lines (lines around the mouth), marionettes, facial lines.

  • There are some minor after-effects such as swelling and bruising, and some more serious risks associated with dermal filler treatments. These will be covered at your consultation.

Prior to your first treatment, our nurse will go through your consent form with you and cover what to expect during and after your treatment.

  • Your appointment will be 45 minutes to an hour depending on the filler treatment you are having done.

  • Unlike anti-wrinkle, you will see results immediately with filler. There may be some minor bruising and swelling too. The filler takes about two weeks to settle in properly and begin to integrate into the natural tissue.

At Injectable Effects we like to see you back two weeks after your first treatment with us to ensure the filler is settling in nicely. This review is free of charge. Everyone is different and each treatment is tailored to the individual.

  • Anyone under 18 years. Pregnant or breastfeeding woman. People with active auto-immune disorders. If you are unsure, please contact us.

While you are unwell or have cracked, broken or infected skin at the treatment site or have had dental work done within 4 weeks of your treatment you can’t have dermal fillers.

Dermal filler is classed as a prescription medication in Australia so each client completes a consent form and has a consultation with our prescribing Doctor. This consultation is done over FaceTime immediately prior to your first treatment at Injectable Effects. This ensures the safety of each client and adheres to our strict Food & Drug Laws in Australia.
